(August 19, 2010  Halsey, NE)   The Bessey Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands, (NNF&G), will host four Open Houses to discuss Travel Management implementation during the week of Wednesday, September 1st through Wednesday, September 8th.  The new Motorized Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs), will be available at each meeting for folks to view and ask questions.  Meetings will also include opportunities to work with interested volunteer user groups about projects they may be willing to support such as developing, improving or maintaining trails.  The meetings have been scheduled throughout the entire region to offer the public several convenient opportunities to participate, (all time are Central Savings Time):

September 1st, (Wed.) 6 pm – 8 pm:  Niobrara Lodge, Valentine

September 2nd, (Th.) 6 pm – 8 pm:    Stub’s Diner, Thedford

September 7th, (Tue.) 5 pm – 7 pm:   Midtown Holiday Inn, Grand Island

September 8th, (Wed.) 6 pm – 8 pm:  Holiday Inn Express, North Platte

The Travel Management Decision will officially be implemented on all units of the NNF&G when the MVUMs are published this fall.  MVUMs will be available free of charge at all offices or on the web at  www.fs.fed.us/r2/nebraska.

Travel Management is being implemented nationwide to address growing demands for motorized recreation on the Forest and Grasslands while continuing to manage resources associated with public lands administered by the U. S. Forest Service.  Implementation will affect motorized users of the National Forests and Grasslands.
