Grand Opening of Cedar Run ATV Trail at Harlan Lake set for May 1
REPUBLICAN CITY, Nebraska

The grand opening for the Cedar Run ATV Trail at Harlan County Lake has been set for Saturday, May 1.

The Cedar Run ATV trail is located 1/2 mile south of the Harlan County Reservoir south of Republican City.  The area is open to ATVs, dirtbikes and UTVs not more than 67” wide.

The Nebraska Off-Highway Vehicle Association will sponsor a noon lunch at the trail for businesses and individuals who donated to the project, contractors who helped build the trails and trailhead amenities, project partners, and NOHVA members and guests.   If have not already done so, if you plan to attend the lunch, email NOHVA or call before April 25th so you can be added to the list of people expected for lunch.  To contact NOHVA, email Dan Nitzel at danno@nohva.com or call 308-381-2143 and ask to be added to the lunch list.  If no one answers the phone, leave a message with your name, number of people attending and a phone number.

The public is invited to join in the general festivities set to begin at 1:00 p.m., with Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy and other state, federal and local officials scheduled to speak at that time.  At 1:30 p.m., trainers certified by the national ATV Safety Institute will give a presentation on safe riding behavior and proper protective gear.

At 2:00 p.m., games for riders will begin, highlighted by a scavenger hunt fun-ride through the new trail system, with prizes to be given away for winners.  This event is being sponsored by Team MGR, one of the project's major donors.  There is no registration cost for this or any other of the day's events.

The 470-acre, $250,000 trail project was developed and implemented by the Harlan County Tourism Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Harlan Lake, with primary funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration's Recreational Trails Program, which is administered in Nebraska by the Game and Parks Commission.  Trails were built by the U.S. Forest Service enterprise program, Trails Unlimited.

Riders must wear a DOT approved helmet while riding at Cedar Run.  Only one person per ATV is allowed unless the ATV is designed for two passengers.
