Curfew Now In Effect at Headworks

As of May 18th, a new curfew has been placed into effect at the Headworks OHV Park near Genoa. The operation of ATVs and dirtbikes from 11 PM to 7 AM is now prohibited. What this means is that there will be no riding of ATVs or dirtbikes after 11 PM every night and before 7 AM. The new rule will be enforced by the Nance County Sheriff’s Department. The department has ATVs and 4x4 vehicles to enforce the new rule.

The reason why the new rule was adopted involved late night emergency calls to the area by the Genoa Rescue Squad. It has been observed that at least half of all accidents that required an emergency medical response occurred after midnight and alcohol was almost always involved.

We also received reports of people traveling to the area after the bars close to continue the "party" while riding ATVs. This not only increases the chances of someone getting injured while riding, but increased the chances of an accident on the highways by drunk and driving.

To address the late night accident problem, one of the suggestions were to close the area from sun set to sun rise. Many other OHV parks have adopted this rule. However, since night riding is very popular at the area, the 11 PM to 7 AM closure was settled upon. If we continue to have alcohol related injuries at night, this rule could be changed to the sun set to sun rise rule.
