Fall Jamboree a Success
by Dan Nitzel
Once again, we managed to pull off a successful jamboree at the Headworks OHV Park near Genoa. Official attendance was 806 riders. Many observers believe that the attendance was more like 950 or 1000. We had the biggest group of campers to date that stayed overnight Saturday. NOHVA picked up 142 new members and 52 renewing members.
There was a huge turnout for the drag races. The turnout was SO LARGE that we had to limit rider to just one class. We know some people were disappointed about this, and we plan to have things worked out better next time.
There were two accidents reported at the jamboree. One occurred late Saturday night where a young camper was severely burned. RUMOR has it that he and his friends were actually playing with fire as they were dumping various small and large amounts of gasoline in their camp fire. One of the unlucky participants received burns and had to go to the burn center in Lincoln. While we have no idea who was involved or what his condition is, and we hope he is OK.
Another accident occurred after the drag races with a person who was riding along and hit the pile of sand left by the drag races. The un-identified rider was rescued by the Genoa Rescue Squad. At this time we do not know who the rider was, what he injured or broke, or what his condition is.
The proceeds of the jamboree will be used to for signing projects and various other trail related costs in Nebraska. Some of the fall jamboree proceeds will be use to purchase new NOHVA t-shirts.
As always, the Nance County Sheriff’s Department was well represented at the Jamboree by Chief Deputy Dave Moore and other deputies that were on duty. Good neighbor Alan Moor allowed us to rent his pasture for over flow parking and camping.
Just prior to the event, the Loup Power crew at Headworks worked VERY HARD to prepare the area for riding. They helped make the area were new gullies were made safer and mowed the entire parking area and Weir Bridge Park. We would like to thank them for their planning and hard work!
Thanks to the Genoa Rescue Squad, the sheriff’s department, Deputy Dave Moore, the Headworks crew with Loup Power, and Alan Moor.
