Spring Jamboree a Success
by Dan Nitzel
Once again, we managed to pull off a successful jamboree at the Headworks OHV Park near Genoa. Official attendance for the weekend was 1247 riders. Saturday attendance was 815 and Sunday attendance was 432. A total of 69 memberships were renewed and we had 182 new members. NOHVA membership now stands at about 1020 memberships, or about 2100 members for the year 2003. It cost us $4500 to hold the jamboree.
No incidents to report by the rescue squad, not even a band aid handed out. No accidents reported. This was our best jamboree yet, except we could have used more volunteers. BUT THANKS!!!!!!!!! to those who did! This was one INTENSE event to prepare for!
One arrest by law enforcement, the arrest was not related to the jamboree but it involved a person avoid arrest by law enforcement and traveled down the entrance trail in a Grand Am and struck a Blazer. Law enforcement chased 5 minors into the woods for MIP. Never found them. Numerous people were asked to dump their beers out. Four people were asked to turn off their generators after 12:30 AM. One person reportedly opened their sewage tanks in the camp ground, left a mess, but I guess this is very common in other camp grounds.
Many observers believe that the attendance was more like 1500 or 2000. We had the biggest group of campers to date that stayed overnight Saturday.
There was a huge turnout for the drag races. The proceeds of the jamboree will be used to for signing projects and various other trail related costs in Nebraska and to purchase a new rescue unit storage shed/container.
As always, the Nance County Sheriff’s Department was well represented at the Jamboree by Chief Deputy Dave Moore and other deputies that were on duty. Good neighbor Alan Moor allowed us to rent his pasture for over flow parking and camping.
Just prior to the event, the Loup Power crew at Headworks worked VERY HARD to prepare the area for riding. They mowed the entire parking area and Weir Bridge Park and cleared more trees for parking. We would like to thank them for their planning and hard work!
Thanks to the Genoa Rescue Squad, the sheriff’s department, Deputy Dave Moore, the Headworks crew with Loup Power, and Alan Moor.
