State Senators and State Government Need To Listen and Help Us!

By Dan Nitzel

I would like to thank our members for the great job they did in contacting their state senators concerning LB-333! Unfortunately, it did not do much good as LB-333 rapidly sailed through the legislature ignoring ATV and dirtbike recreation. Looks like LB-333, our best chance to date to help fund trails for ATVs and dirtbikes in Nebraska is headed to the Governor for his signature. For more information, read the "ATV & Dirtbike Related Bills in Nebraska Unicameral" article in this newspaper.

Over the years, we have told our states ATV and dirtbike riders to "write their Senators" to ask them for new places to ride. Hundreds of ATV and dirtbike riders have. Unfortunately, it too has not had much impact. We have do keep contacting them, though!

I have always had a considerable amount of faith in our State Senators. If a person contacted them and responsibly asked them to consider their view or opinion, the senator would most likely write or call them back and thank them for their opinion or ask for more information.

Much to my disappointment, that has not always been the case when ATV and dirtbike riders have written their state senators about ATV or dirtbike related issues. Considering my prior positive experiences with state senators, I think this is some what unusual. More non this in a later article!

In the mean time, CONTINUE to write and call your state senator and ask for ATV and dirtbike trails. Tell them that Game and Parks has accepted the responsibility to manage and fund our states motorized recreation trails, but they can’t help us because they interpret being involved with motorized trail recreation is against their mission statement. People are often forced to leave the state to find recreation.

Remember, THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE, so get out there and SQUEAK! We need to stick in there and keep at trying to find new places to ride in Nebraska. Eventually, we shall overcome!
