New NOHVA Chapter Announced

By Dan Nitzel, NOHVA Business Manager

On Friday, February 3rd, 2006 a meeting of local ATV and dirtbike riders was held in Deshler Nebraska to promote developing a potential ATV and dirtbike park in south central Nebraska.  The focus of the meeting was to establish an organized group of enthusiasts to work with local government officials to find and develop a suitable riding park site from a willing land owner.  At this time a suitable site has not been located, and this potential project is at the very beginning stage.

NOHVA co-founders Gary Gibbs and Dan Nitzel organized the meeting so that recreational ATV and dirtbike enthusiasts from Thayer County and surrounding counties could establish either a separate club or decide to become a separate chapter of NOHVA. After some discussion of the alternatives, by a vote of the 31 people in attendance at the meeting, the proposal that the new organization become a chapter of NOHVA be adopted.

At the same meeting new officers were elected by those in attendance.  The new officers of the organization are Billy Vodicka of Hebron as President, Jeff Drohman of Deshler as Vice President, and Ann Vodicka of Hebron as Secretary/Treasurer.

The next step in establishing the organization involved asking the NOHVA board of directors permission to become a chapter.  The NOHVA board of directors approved the request to become a chapter February 25th.

The reason the new organization requested to become a chapter of NOHVA involves an interest to help local government officials in Deshler and Hebron to investigate the development of an ATV and dirtbike park with local riders and NOHVA.   The reason for the park involves the desire to provide an additional activity for local residents and promote tourism and economic development.

Several existing ATV and dirtbike areas in Nebraska contribute to the economies of their nearby communities.  Recreational ATV and dirtbike riding is becoming an increasingly popular activity among people of all age groups.   With an estimated 40,000 plus ATVs and dirtbikes in Nebraska, providing places for people to ride has a considerable amount of potential.

As of this writing, the members of the new Deshler/Hebron chapter have not yet agreed upon a formal name for the chapter.
