NOHVA Jamboree Held
June 3rd and 4th
The Nebraska Off Highway Vehicle Association (NOHVA) held it’s 27th Jamboree on
June 3rd and 4th at the Headworks Park near Genoa.
According to our records, we had an attendance of 1176 ATV and dirtbike riders.
Our jamboree in the fall of 2005 attracted 761 riders. Most of the jamboree
participants arrived Friday night and stayed until Sunday afternoon. Most of the
riders were from Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas and Missouri. Some riders
came as far as Indiana, Louisiana and Alaska.
Proceeds of the NOHVA Jamborees are used to pay expenses involving the operation of six public ATV and dirtbike areas in Nebraska, and to support local emergency community services in Genoa and Fullerton.
On Saturday, our series of activities included an all age barrel race at 1 PM and a Poker run at 5:00 PM. An ATV pull was scheduled for 3 PM but due to a miss-communication the sled failed to arrive. If you attended the Jamboree to participate in the ATV pull event and are dissatisfied, please contact the NOHVA business office and let us know and maybe we can work something out. We want everyone to be satisfied and we sincerely apologize to all that it may have inconvenienced.
On Sunday, over 300 drag races were staged on the sand. The informal drag races had entries from 10 year olds to seniors. The machines that took part ranged from utility ATVs to full blown high dollar special sand drag ATVs. The high performance machines are crowd favorites with hundreds of riders watching the races.
No arrests or citations were issued by local law enforcement. The Genoa Rescue Squad and Fullerton Rescue Squad was asked to assist with about ten injuries.
The Nebraska Off Highway Vehicle Association would like to thank the volunteers with the Genoa Rescue Squad and the Fullerton Rescue Squad for their assistance at the 27th Jamboree. Their commitment as volunteers to the Rescue Squads are greatly appreciated by those who are occasionally in need of medical assistance. They are indeed a valuable asset to their communities! We would also like to thank those at the Genoa Community Hospital. People can depend upon their help when they most need it.
In appreciation for the Rescue Squad’s time at the Jamboree, NOHVA donated $500 to the Genoa Rescue Squad and $500 to the Fullerton Rescue Squad.
The Loup employees who are based at the Headgates place a considerable amount of effort into preparing the area for ATV and dirtbike riders, and for the jamboree by maintaining the area through out the year. This exceptional efforts by them is greatly appreciated! We would like to especially thank Gary Pierson for his leadership and understanding at the Headgates.
It is our intention to promote the jamboree events as a family type activity. The Nance County Sheriff’s department provides their expertise to help keep attendees of the Jamborees under control, and they help patrol the area through out the year. Sheriff Kruse and Chief Deputy Dave Moore, and their staff have been outstanding in working with all the parties involved at the area. Without their help and involvement over the years, the riding park would not be possible today.
We would also like to thank Alan Mohr for allowing jamboree participants to use his pasture for additional camping and parking.
Lastly, we want to thank the businesses and the people of Genoa and Fullerton for their warm welcome of ATV and dirtbike riders that attend the jamboree, and riders who visit Headworks Park through out the year. Headworks Park is the only public area open to operate an ATV and dirtbike for recreation in the eastern half of Nebraska. It is one of the finest ATV and dirtbike parks in the central plains.
