NOHVA Now Chartered by AMA
After allowing to lapse for about a year, NOHVA has renewed it’s charter with the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). We would like to thank the NOHVA members who volunteered their AMA number to help us renew our charter.
The AMA has been a dependable ally for NOHVA in Washington D.C., and was instrumental in persuading the fed’s to change the Recreational Trails Program rules for states concerning the way the state’s distribute funds for motorized projects. The Recreational Trails Plan (RTP) fund represents a refund of the Federal gasoline tax that Nebraska’s off road users pay. Federal gasoline taxes collected from ATV, dirtbike, snowmobile and other off highway vehicles are refunded back to Nebraska from the Federal Highway Administration via the Recreational Trails Program (RTP). The Nebraska Recreational Trails Plan Committee is sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. We believe the AMA has played a strategic role in helping persuade the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to be more supportive of motorized trails in Nebraska.
Over the years NOHVA has donated money to the AMA’s Government Relations department. AMA Government Relations lobbies and supports pro-ATV and dirtbike trail legislation and government polices, works to eliminate insurance coverage discrimination for ATV and motorcycle riders, and works on other important items critical to our freedom to ride.
