Problems at Headworks……
Dear NOHVA Member and Riders Who Enjoy the Headworks OHV Park near Genoa,
Over the last couple of weeks we have received many complaints about ATV riders drag racing on the roads, in the parking, and on the entrance trail at Headworks near Genoa. Riding ATVs and dirtbikes on the roads at Headworks is not allowed for any reason. There is a speed limit on the entrance trail and in the parking area.
According to the reports that I have been receiving, most of the people doing this is teenagers and young adults. While people have been yelling at them to stop or slow down, they have not. Some people have mentioned to me that a new breed of rider is emerging at Headworks, one that exhibits thug behavior and who cares less for the few rules that exist. People are leaving more trash on the ground. Vandalism is occurring. People with UTVs or side-by-sides that are too wide to get into the entrance gate have knocked down fences and are driving on the road.
SIMPLY PUT, IF PEOPLE DO NOT STOP RIDING AND DRAG RACING ON THE ROADS, IN THE PARKING AREA, AND THE VANDALISM DOES NOT STOP, THE RIDING AREA WILL CLOSE. With about 1000 acres available to ride, can’t the idiots find a place to ride other than tearing around in the parking area and riding on the road? The only reason why the area is open now is because riders have in the past conducted themselves in a civil manner. Once the behavior gets out of control, the area WILL CLOSE – it’s that simple.
This is what YOU can do the HELP. Pass on the word that people need to stay off the roads, slow down in the parking area and entrance trail, pick up their trash and stop the vandalism or the area will close. If you see someone on the roads, kindly ask them to stay off the roads. Don’t argue with them, we simply want them to know people are watching. Mention to them that the riding area will close if the drag racing and riding on the roads and parking area does not stop, the trash does not stop, and the vandalism does not stop. If you get no results from visiting with riders, watch the riders who are drag racing or riding on the roads. Find the truck or car they drove to get there and write down their license place number and the location where they are parked. When a Sheriff’s Deputy drives through or is on duty, tell them who is doing what and where they are parked. If a deputy is not there, call the Sheriffs department in Fullerton at 911 or 308-536-2452.
UTV and side-by-side owners, if your machine is wider that what fit’s through the gate, you are trespassing and will be ticketed for trespassing if you are driving in the park.
This week alone numerous young riders have been busted for riding on the roads. Upon being caught, the riders were told that they were banned from riding at Headworks for the rest of the year. As of today, riders will be ticketed if caught on the road, and may be told that they can’t come back.
To address the problem of people riding on the roads and riding too fast in the parking area, NOHVA has hired off-duty Sheriff Deputies to catch the riders and ticket them beginning this week. The Sheriff’s Department’s vehicles will be un-marked, and they may not be in uniform. They will be monitoring riders at Headworks through out the summer and they are under orders to ticket ANYONE who is riding on the road – a possible $300+ fine. If anyone gives them any trouble, the trouble makers will be arrested for disorderly conduct.
Please pass this onto other riders. Let's all work together to KEEP Headworks a great place to ride and ensure that we will continue to have a great place to ride for years to come!
Thank you for your cooperation !
